How to Catch Walleye in a River

It is also a very good idea to visit the various different fishing forums that are available on the internet. There are some specific walleye forums. It is a good idea to look for forums where fishermen are discussing walleye fishing and particularly the rivers that they fish on. Once you find a good forum, do not be scared to look at the old posts that are on the forum. Also pay some close attention to the new posts and the recent posts, as these will also be important.   Although it may not seem possible, it is actually possible to get a ton of information from the forum sites.  It is worth taking some time to do research especially on the internet, and to look at the forum sites.

It is also a very good idea to purchase a map of the river that you are planning to fish on and then you can mark the best bits for walleye fishing. When you are looking for the walleye fishing hot spots, you will need to look for bits that have structure. When you are looking at the map look for places that have drop offs, underwater islands, heads of the island, and also some associated flat areas, as these are very good places to start. One of the best things to look for in the river when trying to find potentially good areas for walleye fishing is to look for bends in the river.

Once you have launched the boat, head either upstream or downstream until you discover the popular area where there are a few boats. Most walleye fishermen tend to follow the same methods. A popular spot is likely to have at least five boats within the one area.

Once you have the location, you are ready to start fishing. In some rivers it is possible to come across as many as seven hot spots within a ten-mile radius.

All the walleye fishing tips that are available are pretty useless unless you are prepared to make good notes. Some of the important things to make notes on are locations, water temperatures, depth, weather conditions, and also river levels.
