When fishing for pike it’s also recommended that you take a few extra items along with you that will make handling this species easier and safer. Some of these include a hook remover, gloves, landing net and a rod holder. Using floats will help you see when you get a bite and you’ll also find there will be times when a pair of wire cutters will come in very handy.

The pike is often described as a predator that can be very aggressive. They don’t swim in groups but they do move around a lot because they like to follow they prey. If you pay attention to your surroundings and note where the baitfish are located, you’ll probably have better luck finding the pike. They can also be found in areas where there are lots of weeds and similar cover. Look for them close to the shoreline and in waters that are about fifteen feet deep.

Another thing that sets the pike apart from many of the other species is that the best time to go fishing for them will be during the day from dawn to dusk. Therefore, if you don’t like night fishing, this would be an excellent species to seek out. You can often find them just under the surface soaking up the sun.

Having the right equipment and learning as much as you can about the pike will greatly increase the odds of catching more fish each time you head out to the water. They are not a very ambitious fish and could even be classified as an opportunistic eater because they will eat what is most convenient for them. Learning as much as you can about pike will help improve your skills so you can reel in more fish each time you go fishing.
