Wyoming Walleye Fishing Hot Spots

Wyoming is a virtual hot spot for these fish and the successful fisherman will know where the walleye like to hide during all of the seasons of the year.  Because they enjoy the colder water, brave souls could literally fish for them all year round.  Springtime sees the biggest change with the spawning season.  As long as that fact is remembered by the angler, they will have little to no trouble finding their fish.

The best places in Wyoming to go walleye fishing are the major lakes in the state, which include Ocean Lake and Bighorn Lake.  Reservoirs, such as Boysen, Grayrocks, Seminole, and Glendo, are also perfect walleye water.  As a point of interest, the state’s largest recorded walleye 17 pounds, 7 ounces was caught in the Boysen Reservoir.

Here is some information on favored Wyoming hot spots and the walleyes that can be found within them. Boysen Reservoir located near Thermopolis, Boysen is the home to some good sized walleye.  The best fishing is in the month of June around the points of the reservoir with jigs or spinners.  Boat fishers can take some of the suspended walleyes in the middle of this body of water with troll crank baits.

Bighorn Lake straddling the Wyoming and Montana border, large walleyes can be found in this beautiful lake.  Fishers will probably come away with a good sized catch if they use jigs near the steep banks of the lake, or trolled crank baits for those suspended walleye closer to the middle they are boating after.

Yellowstone River river fishers will find that the area downstream from the town of Hysham offers the best walleye and suager fishing.  The best times of year to fish the river is in the late summer through the fall and into the winter if the river does not freeze over.
