3 Methods to use Walleye Fishing Montana

The fish are moving around and will see the bait drifting by and bite. The thing to keep in mind is that the water temperature plays a role in how or what method of fishing you will use. If you are unsure where the fish are, you can use drifting so that you can cover more area without running the motor.

Vertical dropping into the zone works when you know where the fish are hiding. The temperature of the water will play a role in this method of fishing. When the waters are cold, the fish want the bait dropped right in front of them. Trolling is not going to work well because the fish are not as active in cold waters. You are better off finding the place where the baitfish are schooling and the walleye should be close by waiting. You can drop into the zone and should have a few bites.

Remember to take along the right tackle. Although you are going to use a different method with different water temperatures, you still have to have the right tackle along. Just because it is cold in the water, does not mean that a jig or spinner will work. You have to be prepared to change your method of fishing by trying different baits and presentations. Keep enough tackle with you just in case you have to try something different.

If you plan to fish for walleye in Montana, you need to be prepared for any situation. Just because one method worked the day before, does not mean it will work today. The weather changes, the fish change and the way you fish changes.

If you keep in mind the three methods of fishing and use the one that fits the day, you should have a good day. However, you must be willing to change your method of fishing if one is not working. Drifting, trolling and dropping are starting points for the water temperatures and conditions, but you have to be willing to change and try a different method if one is not working.

Fishing for walleye in Montana is exciting and with so many different places to fish, you will have many decisions to make once you get out on the water.
