The lures and baits are important for walleye fishing. As long as you have the basic lures and some different bait, you should have everything you need. The test line can be six-pound test, but three-pound test has been used. It is best to use a test line that is rated for ice fishing because of the cold water. The walleye are not very feisty during the winter months. As the water gets colder, the fish get slower.

Having fun and ice fishing are something many anglers look forward to during the winter months. You can expect to find fish a little slow, but if you find the right location, you should have some bites. The ideal way to walleye fish during the winter is by having two holes at least ten feet apart up to twenty feet apart. If you are using tip up’s this is no problem.

Get your gear together and make sure you have everything you need before venturing out on the ice. Do not forget to fill the gas tank on the ice drill.

Many anglers have forgotten to do something and usually remember once they are on the ice. By that time, it is usually to late. Make sure the ice is thick enough and use precautions whenever you walk or drive on the ice. Some areas of the ice may be weak where other areas are strong. It is always important to know the water and the area.
