What baits should I use for walleye fishing in Maine? Best places to fish?
There are several different baits you can try for fishing for walleye in Maine. First try the crank baits. This is one of the better baits to troll with when you’re fishing for walleye. This will keep your lure down in the water and have a better chance at catching some walleye. When using crank bait and trolling try and use any thing from 8 to 12 pound lines. Colors of bait should be blue, black, silver, chartreuse, gold, and bright orange. Also try downriggers out; the bait will stay at the right depth. Also try out a jig. If you know how to use a jig this may be your best bet on catching some really nice walleye. If you use a jig, try and have a rod that is 6 or 7 foot and sensitive with light to medium action. Don’t get too much flex in your rod; it will make the jig movement less appealing to the walleye. As far as the best places to fish in Maine, you have tons of choices to catch that big trophy size walleye. First check out the 4,288 acre lake at Sebasticook Lake. Also try Lake Auburn for more fishing, and West Grand Lake which is at some spots 128 and covers 14,340 acres. Big Lake is another choice; it lives up to its name with covering 10,305 acres. Also try out Canada Falls Lake near Rockwood Maine. Eagle Lake near Bar Harbor would be worth a try too. Cathance Lake in Cooper Maine would be another good place to check into. Finally but not least you should look at East Grand Lake located near Danforth Maine. Good luck in your walleye fishing. Hope you catch a lot.
