Walleye fishing is like breathing here in MN. But I’m just getting started. Can I get some quick tips for walleye bait for fishing in Minnesota?
Since there are well over 1000 lakes in MN to choose from it is rather easy to get started. First, you have to decide on where you will be going to fishing. Lake Winnibigoshish is one of Minnesota’s best lakes for walleye fishing. Another good lake to fish for walleye in is Leech Lake. The best bait to use on these lakes, actually the best bait to use in Minnesota period, is small minnow or perch, leeches, and night crawlers. They are all bait that most walleye like to eat. Most of the time worm harnesses will work pretty well to catch walleye. If you are unable to get a hold of live bait then you can always buy lures that resemble these types of bait. A good choice for a lure that resemble a minnow is the Storm minnow. Another good choice in bait is rapalas. They come in all sorts of colors, shapes, and sizes. They resemble small perch and minnows as well. Walleye also seem to go for bait that is extremely flashy and noticeable. You can keep your bait moving because it may catch their attention more easily. After spawning season, you can catch allot of the female walleye using flashy bait because they are hungry and looking for food to replenish what they used. When you are fishing in lakes that are deep then you could try using a crankbait. You can drag it along the deeper areas to catch walleye that are hovering along the bottom.
