Can I use carolina rigs for Walleye fishing?

Will a Carolina rig work when fishing for Walleye? If so – can you tell me how to set one up?

A Carolina rig is an excellent rig to use when fishing on the bottom of the river or lake which is where Walleye like to feed.  To make a Carolina rig, you’ll need fishing line, a hook, bait, a ½ to 1 ounce egg sinker weight, a barrel swivel and about 6 foot of leader line.  You’ll also need a glass or brass bead or rattle chamber.  The leader line should be about 2 pounds lighter than your reel line.  To tie a Carolina rig, start with your leader line and tie one end to the barrel swivel.  Put it aside, we’ll come back to it.  Second, you’ll need to slide the main line through the sinker weights and then place the rattle chamber or bead behind the weight.  Tie the main line to the other end of the barrel swivel and then tie the end of the leader line to the barrel swivel.  Finally, hook your bait.  If you’re using live bait, you’ll want to place the hook in a way that will keep the bait alive.  When presenting the rig, cast beyond the target.  The weight will pull the bait to the bottom so you don’t have to keep the line taunt.  Reel in the slack and tug slightly. Repeat this process.
