I just moved to South Dakoto what can you tell me about walleye fishing here?
There are several places that you can find to fish for walleye in South Dakota. Just keep in mind that they love to be in some deep lakes, and around gravel, sandy, or rock beds. There are tons of major areas and lakes to try out in your new state. Check out Angostura Reservoir, Big Stone Lake, Belle Fourche Reservoir, Lake Albert, Bitter Lake, Lake Kampeska, Lake Francis Case, Lake Oahe, Lake Madison, Lake Pelican, Lake Preston, Lake Poinsett, Lake Thompson, Lake Sharpe, Lake Traverse, Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake Whitewood, Shadehill Reservoir, and finally Waubay Lake. All of these places will have very healthy populations of walleye swimming around in them. Check out some of the smaller lakes and rivers too around South Dakota. You also need to keep in mind that a deep pond may even hold some walleye. If you want to try and beat the record of the largest walleye, check out Lake Sharpe, where the last one came out of. As you can tell from the list you have a ton of options, and most definitely it might even be considered as a never ending walleye fishing state. Well not really, but do not only look at the larger lakes that are listed above. Make sure if you see a little lake or pond to check it out too. Write down where you see them, and make sure one weekend you go and check out the fishing! Get the correct rod that fits your needs and a jig or whatever type of bait you feel like using, and carry them with you in your vehicle. This way when you’re driving you can simply stop at the place you find and get to fish some walleye.
