Do you have a good technique for fly-fishing walleye? How does this differ from fly fishing trout?

Category: Uncategorized

hey dan i was wondering on how to set my hook and weight on my pole when i go walleye fishing. could you explain to me hjow to do so please.

First off, let me say that walleye fly-fishing is similar to trout fishing as far as the techniques and how to tie off flies. The one thing you do need to keep in mind is that fly-fishing for walleye is not the best way to catch this fish. Fly-fishing for walleye will take tremendous will power on your part. The walleye spook easily and if you are not completely still in the water, they will run. However, you can fish streams and rivers during the spawn using the fly-fishing technique. I would suggest using a lighter rod with a four-pound test line. The best way to cast is into the underwater rock formations and very slowly reel the bait in. By using the slowest motion, you are going to allow the walleye to strike without doing to much traveling. Now you will want to have complete stillness in the water and no bright lights. It is always best to fish along the shallows of the streams and rivers. After spawning, you will not have much lucky with fly-fishing for walleye. If you want to catch walleye, you will do better from a boat. You can sit in one place or do a slow troll. If you are serious about walleye fishing and catching a fish, skip fly-fishing and go for the weed beds and underwater dead wood and rock humps. Use a jig and a minnow and you will catch more fish than you could if you were using the fly - fishing method.
