Drop-Shot is Great For Fishing the Weeds

I’ve been told that I can actually use a drop-shot in weeds but I thought it was a clear water technique. Can you tell me how to use it in these conditions?

The idea of using the drop-shot method allows you to drop into the weeds where walleye are known to lurk. You can drop shot in any water conditions, it is the bait that you use that will determine if you hook the walleye or not. Some anglers also, drop and reel I right away. This is not going to catch a walleye. When you drop the bait, you need to give the bait time to sink and settle. Give a little jiggle here and there, but only slightly. After a short time, you can then slowly and smoothly reel in the bait and drop again. This is a time consuming way to catch the walleye, but it does work.

The water can be murky or clear. It will depend on the water condition as to what bait you will use. Some anglers use a ten-pound test line, preferably a braided line and a Bucktail jig. Of course, the jig is going to be a bit heavier than what you use to cast, it should be a half to three quarters of an ounce. The color is going to be up to you, however, use something that resembles something similar to the baitfish in that particular location and it should work best.

The last thing to remember is that the walleye is a short striker and they inhale their prey. Use a hook that is sharp enough as well as sturdy enough to keep the fish hooked when you are reeling it in.
