Minnesota walleye fishing can also be fruitful on a bright day as well, whether warm or cold. The brightness actually does warm up the waters considerably, even on a cool day, which brings the fish to life and sets you and your family up for some great fishing action.
If you are really adventurous, you can actually spend your Minnesota walleye fishing vacation on a houseboat. You can rent one at Rainy Lake in International Falls and set your own schedule for fishing and other activities. These houseboats have all the comforts of home (showers, toilets, heat, refrigeration, etc), so it doesn’t feel like “roughing it”, and being on the water allows you to park in a great fishing spot, even overnight, so you can still find a great catch the following morning! One suggestion for Minnesota walleye fishing on Rainy Lake, whether in your houseboat or on another vessel, is to target the rock humps and reefs in the 15-35 foot range (they are marked with buoys) that are adjacent to deep water. Walleye like to get into the rocky areas to eat but then slide back into the deeper waters beside them to rest, making this a perfect spot to hook a few good-sized fish!
