Fish Walleye at Lake Erie

I have never went walleye fishing befor and i am going to lake erie this summer and I would like to know everything you need to go walleye fishing like what kind of rod you need and the bate (ect). Thank-you! Jamie Jones

Picking out a fishing rod to go out and catch some walleye shouldn’t be too difficult. Those high end rods that cost more money are all pretty good, as long as you make sure that the rods are light and have some good action, including the sensitivity. They should also be dense and made from Graphite. In order to pick a perfect one, you should hold the rod and find one that is comfortable in your hands and that just feels right. Sounds like a bit of a clich, I know, but going more in depth about those picks think of the following options. Rods will have a few actions that you will need to compare; medium-heavy, medium, medium-light, and of course don’t forget light. Different fishing situations will call for different actions. If the water is deep and you have to fight with a bunch of current, check into the medium-heavy or even the medium action. A lake with no current you can go into the light and medium-light action rods. Just because you need to be able to set the hook doesn’t mean you need the heavier test of line though. Tip actions should be taken into account too. There are three different types of tip action; extra fast, fast and moderate. This will classify where that hook set power will come from the pole. The most popular lengths of rods will run from 5’5″ to a 6′ long rod. Some people enjoy the longer rods more, feeling they may get more setting action. Go out and hold a few different rods and see how they fit in your hands. This should help you out a bunch, Jamie.
