Equipment
For walleye fishing, you should have a medium weight rod with a spinner reel. You want to be able to feel the bite in the rod since the walleye is a short striker. You need to be able to feel the line moving as the walleye is inhaling the bait. A good six to seven foot graphite rod will work the best. A fish locator or a GPS will help you with locating fishing areas. You can use a map of the water, but when you have the ability to find the baitfish, you will know the walleye are close by.
Relax and Wait
Don’t get discourage if you are not getting any bites. You are going to have good days and bad days. If you need to move around the water, you have to have an idea about where to start. If it is a warm day, you may need to drift or troll, but as with any type of fishing, you have to give it time. You may even need to try different presentations and bait to lure the fish.
If you have a plan and choose the location and day that you want to fish, you should always take different tackle and bait along. You should make sure you know where you are going and what the weather will be like for the day. Find a place where you are going to have some bites. Fishing isn’t a science, but it does take some knowledge about the walleye’s habits, likes and dislikes. Once you find a good spot, it is time to stay in one place and present the bait.
After all, you want to get the fish to bite and not run away.
