5.       Choose the Right Bait – It’s important to choose the right baits based on the time of day and year that you go fishing. You can fish for walleye with both live baits and artificial lures. However, in the early part of the spring you’ll see the best results if you use live baits. When using lures to attract the walleye, you’ll find that crank baits and jigs work the best.

The best time to go walleye fishing is early morning or late evenings because this is when they are the most active. Overcast days, when it’s drizzling rain or when the water is choppy are also good times to go because the walleye will be more active. When the sun shines bright they go into hiding. Their excellent eyesight makes it easier for them to have an advantage over their prey and they take advantage of this by feeding when the waters are the darkest.

It’s always recommended that you know the area where you’re going fishing for several reasons. For one thing, you can be more successful when you’re fishing in waters that you know. Another reason is because you’ll have a good idea where to find the walleye depending on the weather and time of year in which you’re fishing.

Knowing the area will also help to keep you safer. Going out on the water can be fun and exciting but it can also be dangerous. When you know the water in which you’re fishing, you know where to go and which areas to avoid. If you are new to the area or visiting for the first time, you can always enlist the help of a guide or charter service to take you out on the water. They will know where all the hotspots are located so you’re sure to have a great fishing adventure.

Take advantage of the spawning season whenever you get a chance. This usually occurs between May and June when the water is between forty-two and fifty-six degrees. They will gather together around sandy bays, gravel flats and around structures to spawn.

Fishing for walleye is fun, exciting and it can even be fascinating. This species is full of surprises that can keep even the most experienced angler on their toes. However, fishing for walleye in Northern Canada is regulated and you must have a valid fishing license before heading out to the water. Plus, it’s important that you obey all the rules and regulations as well.
