Well, after much research it seems that you should stick with the planer board. Many people have used this with great luck. There are some choices as far as which planer board you can purchase and try out, though. First off try an offshore planer board, which is great for walleyes. This board is very easy to use and works great. With the addition of some other parts, you can turn a planer board into a walleye catching machine! Add a tension release clip to the vanilla planer board. The line you use is your choice; a super line or fire line is great. You want to add this because normally a clip that has come on a planer board may not be as strong as you would like it to be. Next, add a tattle flag to the planer board. This will help you in case the water you are fishing might be a bit rougher. You will not be able to tell by looking at the line whether you have a nibble on the line or not. Instead of dragging a fish along with you because you can’t tell you have it on the line, you add a tattle flag and you will be able to see that you have caught a walleye. Try a mini planer board if you don’t like the bigger boards. You can also make your own adjustments to the board to add some features like above. With a smaller size they are a bit easier to use in most cases, but if you’re fishing from rough water, it probably isn’t the right choice for you either. Look in the areas where the walleye like to stay at, and with either of these two boards you should be able to have a nice haul of walleye. Good luck in your fishing adventure.
