How and where to fish the Fontana Reservoir in North Carolina in mid April?

I am planning a walleye fishing trip to Fontana Reservoir NC in mid April. I have never fished this body of water and cant seem to find any reports online. I was wondering if you could give me any pointers on where to concentrate my efforts and how. Thanks for what you do for the average fisherman. David Engle

The best places to fish for walleye in the Fontana Reservoir in April is by gravel edges and dead wood. The walleye spawn in late March and are finished by the end of March or early April. The best place to catch the walleye is near the shores, underwater rock formations and any humps underwater. You want to stay in shallow waters in April and May. You can use a dept finder to find the shallowest water where the walleye linger after the spawn before heading back to the deeper waters. Some anglers will sit in one spot for an entire day knowing that the walleye will come. The thing is that they are usually right on the money. Look for shallow water with underground humps or rock formations and sit in wait. The best baits to use are plastic worms, jigs and crankbaits. They should be small and not to big. The walleye are not aggressive eaters at this time of year. You can use a minnow on a jig as well. You are going to find that using minnows will attract the walleye more so than a plastic worm, but that is my opinion. The anglers that fish the waters there do know more about the walleye, but they also have their own ways of fishing. Everyone has a different technique or tackle to use and swear by it, but minnows and jigs work very well. Good luck on your fishing trip and catch a lot of fish.
