How do you recommend I use live bait to catch walleye?

I would have to recommend using a the live bait rig such as attaching some split shots to your fishing line behind the hook about two feet. If you are fishing lakes and slower waters, use the floating jig head. This is an old trick of anglers from years ago. Just make sure you keep some short shank jigs in your tackle box for live bait. I would recommend finding a weedbed and dropping the live bait right into the pocket. The walleye like to hover and wait for the prey to come to them. If you have a slow drop method, this is going to easy the live bait right into view. This means the walleye will see it coming and strike when it comes close enough. By rock structures, you would do the same thing. If you are trolling with live bait, you want to make sure it is a slow troll and the bait stays lively. You will probably have to change live bait after a few failed attempts because it will more than likely die after casting a few times. If you prefer to use night crawlers, you can use a worm harness and ball the night crawler up on the jig. Leave enough body to wiggle a bit. This should ensure a strong strike and bite. Once the walleye takes the bait, it should hook nicely. Also, remember to use the right size live bait for the season you are fishing in because it does matter.
