I’m moving to Ausable, Michigan and I’m wondering if you can give me some walleye fishing tips for this area?
The winter ice fishing for walleye is spectacular on the Van Ettan Lake. The walleye fishing on Lake Huron and AuSable River are also good places to fish all year long. The bait they are using in the area is a crankbait. I have heard of anglers using a jig and a minnow and walking away with a trophy walleye. They are catching walleye that are thirty inches and weight twelve pounds by Oscoda Harbor. You are moving to a great area for walleye fishing. Keep in mind that these lakes and rivers do ice over somewhat and the walleye will be by the underwater rock structures and humps. If you watch the water temperatures during the year, you will know when spring spawn starts and then you will follow the fish as they move further out. I would also talk to the bait shops around the area. They keep some great records to pass along to anglers. They can almost tell you were the walleye are on any given day. The rivers are great during the summer, but fishing from the pier in Oscoda will net you some nice sized walleyes with live bait. Another thing is that some anglers have taken to fishing for the eyes at night and have had great success. Right after dark, the walleye move into the shallow waters and fishing from shores can be done with no problem. All you basically need is your tackle and equipment when fishing this area in Michigan.
