I am planning a trip to hayward Wisconsin. Any tips for fishing walleye? Best spots and baits?
Upper Wisconsin by Hayward you will have some great walleye fishing on Round Lake, Nelson Lake and Lake Hayward. Actually, this are of Wisconsin is incredible for walleye fishing. Up around Hayward and Ladysmith, you will find some nice sized walleyes. The walleye fishing bait is as it is everywhere else. You can use a minnow and a jig. The best way to fish these three lakes is in a boat. You can visit the local bait shop for the bait and maybe even check out some of the guides if you do not have a boat to use. There are plenty of them up there in the Hayward area. One thing I can tell you is that there are a lot of bear up there in them woods. I saw a bear from the boat and it was hanging around the water, probably waiting for my fish. I just had to sit it out until he was long gone. I know many of the locals have problems with the bears and wolves on their properties. So just remember that when you go. Visit any one of these lakes and take your usual tackle along. You will find that every day brings a new adventure and bait needs. Stop at the local bait shop or the corner diner in Hayward where some of the locals hang out before and after a day of fishing. They can give you more information for that particular day. Everyone is real friendly up there.
