Dear Dan, I live in Colorado Spring, colorado and I was curious if there are any good places in the state to go Walleye fishing. I do plenty of fly fishing for trout, but I never hear anyone talking about walleye fishing around here. Are there any places that I would be able to catch some or do I need to travel elsewhere? Thanks, Hunter
In Colorado, you have some great places to fish got walleye. I am not sure of your exact location around Colorado Springs, so I can only list the places that have produced some trophy-sized walleyes in the past. Fish at any one of these water spots: Standley Lake, Lathrop State Park, Horsetooth Lake, Carter Lake, Bonny Reservoir and Adobe Creek Reservoir. You can use grubs, plastic worms, spinner baits, crankbaits and live bait. These areas are known for the walleye population. Two other popular places are John Martin Reservoir and Cherry Creek. They say that fishing walleye in spring with plastic worms, small jigs and small crankbaits work very well. During the fall, you can use spoons, crankbaits and jigs. During the winter, you can use plastic worms, spoons and jigs. During the summer, you can use a larger size plastic worm, jigs and crankbaits. When you are fishing these waters, you should see what the other anglers are using because some days something might be working better than what you used the last time you fished. Each day will bring another location and different types of bait. You can easily check the local fish reports for what the fishing is like, but if you stick to these waters, you will have some good luck catching some walleyes. There are more areas to fish, but without your specific location, it is hard to mention an exact place to fish close by you. If these places are to far away, you can ask some local sporting goods stores as well.
