Ice Fishing for Walleye

Best Equipment

Once you get the basics of walleye ice fishing under your belt, it is time to ensure you have all the right tools for the job. One of the most essential pieces of ice fishing equipment is the use of a portable fishing shelter. These have come a long way from the wooden huts your grandfather may have used. Portable ice fishing shelters allow you to store all your gear and essentials such as food and drinks in one convenient place. When you are ready to move on to the next hole, simply move your fishing shelter with you. There is no need to unload everything, move the shelter and re-load once set. This gives you much more time to ice fish and have all the comforts of home at your side.

Another key piece of equipment for ice fishing is the right fishing rod. Here, a good spring bobber rod will go a long way towards reeling in wintertime walleye. This rod gives notice to walleye checking out your line long before you will feel the slight tug on the line. This is ideal for ice fishing as there is often ice building on the line; you are wearing gloves or casting into a hole.
