Ins and Outs of a Lindy Rig

I heard a “lindy rig” is good for catching walleye. What is it and how do I set it up?

A Lindy Rig is a simple piece of fishing equipment that consists of a sinker, leader of line, two way barrel swivel and a hook. Four different types of sinkers are typically utilized with a Lindy Rig. The main type is a walking sinker with Texas bass casting, bottom bouncer and egg sinkers making up the other three types. Hooks come in virtually all shapes and sizes. The range runs from a basic #2 Aberdeen hook all the way up to a floating jig. A Lindy Rig can be fashioned in any type of fishing situation from trolling to casting and everything in between. The main function of a Lindy Rig is to give an angler the precision needed to pinpoint the almost exact location of fish. Bait selection should stick to whatever is working at the moment. A walleye may be more apt to strike at a small leech today as opposed to the larger night crawlers that worked yesterday. When putting the Lindy Rig together, stick with a light sinker weight. A weight in the range of _ oz or _ oz is ideal. As fall approaches, consider adding a no-snagg weight into your fishing arsenal. Lindy Rigs are ideal for clear water situations. This is the perfect time to place a food source right in front of the face of a walleye. The pinpoint accuracy of a Lindy Rig was made for this setting. Colored hooks such as a #6 or #8 would work here as would plain hooks. The Lindy Rig allows for quick paced snell changes. This could make all the difference when it comes to tracking walleye. These pesky fish change locations or water depths in the blink of an eye. You need equipment that helps keep up with this quick pace.
