Plastic Bait Can Help Catch a Walleye

Category: Uncategorized

How are soft plastics changing the way we fish for Walleye?

Back in the day, a devoted walleye angler would not dream of entering into the fishing arena with anything less than a full stock of live bait. This ranged from any size minnow to leeches. Using any other sort of bait was unthinkable. Times have since changed. Many anglers are realizing that plastic baits can be just as effective, if not more so, than live bait. For starters, plastic bait is industrious throughout the entire year. A wide range of colors and sizes are available at any fishing bait and tackle shop. Some ideal ones to try out are pink head/white tail color combination or an orange head/ chartreuse tail combo. Some ideal plastic bait to try out is culprit grubs and worms. Either one of these in three to four inch sizes is ideal. A large bait size is desirable when the Walleye are the most active. Along with the plastic bait, select a jig that is roughly a quarter and three-eight ounce in head size. In warm weather, fish are the most active in nature. For these conditions, plastic bait can navigate through the waters quickly therefore covering much more water territory. When a fish is more active, it will be up for chasing bait. There is no need to wait for the bait to catch the interest of the fish. The interest will already be there because something new will enter in the radar screen for the fish. Being able to cover more water territory opens the door for catching more walleye. Plastic bait will not fully replace the use of live bait. In the right setting on the perfect day, plastic bait will bring some extra passengers to your boat.
