Dan- hi there! I live in Columbus, Ohio and want to get to a nice place, probably fly-in, where I can rent a cabin and boatw/ outboard for a week or so. I want to be as small a drive as possible. I’m thinking Ontario through Detroit for a route. I want to bring fish back home for the freezer. Probably guided at least for a few days. Schedule would be 2-3 wks from now. Suggestions? Thanx, Bill
Obviously an individual could get several different suggestions as to how to work out a small get away that doesn’t exactly have to include a lot of driving. Many people who fish in and around Ontario will tell you that this is a great place to bring in a decent catch. Most likely when fishing on the Ontario the catch will be abundant as far as the northern pike are concerned. These fish love the waters in this area although they are not always prone to stay there either. And in essence if you are planning a two or three day fishing trip then you are bound to get a good catch. Having a guided fishing trip can always prove to be beneficial. Just because you have a guide doesn’t mean you don’t know all that much about fishing; it simply implies that a guide will potentially know of the best places to fish and to catch fish. Essentially Ontario through Detroit is a good route overall. However, on the return home there is one factor of importance for the fisherman to consider. You don’t want the catch to go bad or spoil so an individual should be sure the fish is packed well in ice and salt. This keeps the fish frozen as well as preserved until an individual has a chance to get to his or her destination. Fish must stay cold. If not frozen they will go bad quickly, and this is the reason it should be transported by the use of plenty of ice and salt. Also, the use of large coolers to place the fish in is also essential for transporting fish in order for it to stay good.
