I’m going walleye fishing on the columbia river, and I’m not sure what they bite on there, can you give me some suggestions?
Worm harnesses are probably the best possible bait that you can use. Especially if you are beginners on the Columbia River. If you are an experienced angler and know what you are doing then you should move on from worm harnesses and try plugs. They are easy to use and can be very effective. Both of these types of bait cover allot of ground, but if you already know where most of the walleye are, then you should use a jig or blade bait. They are both fairly cheap and anglers can even make them themselves. Vertical jigging might even work a little better for you. During the early months of the year, bright colored bait is a good idea to use. Since a jig can be used in almost all types of water, you can never really go wrong with it. It will attract the walleye even in the dark and cloudy water. Walleye are very aggressive fish and seem to eat almost anything they can put in there mouth. Since crawfish is one of there favorite foods you should use bait that looks like them. Deep diving crank baits work good when you drag them. Just use something that can attract their attention. A spinner might even do the trick fairly well since it resembles a minnow. A good bait that looks like a minnow is the Storm Minnow. They work as good or better then live minnows. Some rapalas look like little perch and will get a walleyes attention more effectively.
