Walleye Fishing Tournaments

As September brings summer to a close, Northwestern Ontario is still alive with walleye fishing tournaments. During the first of the month, the Red Lake Fall Classic Catch & Release Walleye Tournament takes place on the Red Lake Chain of Lakes and is one of the largest tournaments in the area. Following this, late September brings the Rainy River Walleye Tournament, sending anglers back to the Rainy River, right where the tournament season began. There are also several smaller walleye fishing tournaments throughout Northwestern Ontario during the season with very small prizes, but it would take a lifetime to detail these, as there are so many. Visit websites with information on Ontario walleye fishing tournaments to learn about other opportunities to join in the competition.

If you want to take your family for a fishing outing but don’t care to participate in walleye fishing tournaments, there are alternatives, such as the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend, held the 2nd weekend of July. This is a time when you can take your family or friends fishing license-free for three days, allowing you the opportunity to not only spend time with your family but also to go fishing for walleye, something you may not have done in a long time, if ever.
