Walleye Fly Fishing

While it seems you may need a lot of material for walleye fly fishing, the really impressive thing is that it is extremely inexpensive to purchase it all, with no item on the list costing more than a couple of dollars. This will really save you some money in the long run when you think about all the expensive prepackaged fly tie kits that have tons of materials you will never use.

The next step and perhaps the most vital of all is to acquire a good book that teaches you how to tie off these five basic patterns. One recommended source is the Western Trout Fly Tying Manual by Jack Dennis. Although referencing trout, walleye fly fishing will utilize the same basic patterns that can be used in a similar manner.

Learning to tie flies is a great way to spend an off season. While walleye doesn’t particularly have an “off season”, you may not enjoy the art of ice fishing and opt not to partake of the winter fishing opportunities. Instead, light a fire inside and take to tying flies for walleye fly fishing when spring rolls around. You’ll certainly have time to perfect your five patterns and have them serviceable when you are ready to jump back into your boat and head out to the lake.
