What are your favorite early summer walleye fishing tips?
Early summer I prefer to troll along the shore banks in about ten feet of water. A jig and minnow works great for catching a walleye. Early summer is going to be different in every area, but for the most part the waters are still a little to cold for the walleye to go deep. The muddy waters where I fish walleye from time to time require a Rappa. It just helps attract the walleye in the dark muddy waters. The best time to troll the banks is in the morning right before sun up. If the day is overcast, that helps keep the walleye in the shallower waters. Sometimes the weed beds are good for sitting over the top and dropping the jig right into the mix. I have good luck doing this. You will need a heavier jig. Then there are times I like the old captain’s trick of balling up a worm on a hook and dropping it right outside the weed beds. This is also a good bait technique for rivers. The majority of anglers have luck in early summer because the walleye are still lurking around the shallows after the spawn. They never go deep unless the water warms ups real fast. Try vertical jigging if you have mastered the skill. Remember to do a slow rise and a slow drop. Use a lightweight jig for slower action. The best time to go walleye fishing in early summer is before sun up or right after the sun sets.
