What is a Lindy Rig?
A Lindy Rig is a type of fishing set up used mainly when fishing for Walleye, the Lindy Rig is actually very basic in design but is a very effective rig when used correctly.
The Lindy Rig
The Lindy Rig is actually a hook attached to a two way barrel swivel that is attached to shock leader line and a sinker (also known as a plummet or weight in the United Kingdom).
Hooks
You can attach any size, color or type of hook that you deem suitable as there are no specifics on the hook you should use when setting up a Lindy Rig.
Two way barrel swivel
This is an important part of the rig as it gives your hook freedom to move on the line. The barrel swivel cannot be replaced by any other piece of fishing tackle.
Shock leader line
It is your choice on the color, weight and length of leader line you use as this depends on preference and also the size of fish you are looking to catch.
Sinker
There are a wide variety of sinkers on the market and you can use any type you wish although the main varieties used in a Lindy Rig are bottom bouncers, walkers, eggs and texas bass casters.
Summary
Many people have not heard of a Lindy Rig yet have used them when fishing as they did not know the name of the rig they were using. Although the Lindy ig may sound simple to those who have fished for a few seasons or more it is a very useful and powerful tool when thinking to fish for Walleye and is certainly worth having in your fishing tackle kit.
