The best way for tipping a jig with a minnow for ice fishing is by tipping it with two minnows rather than one. This will give the walleye more to feed on and they will take the bait quicker. Because you are offering two flopping fish, the walleye will be able to feel this in the water. Ice fishing is a great experience, but you have to be creative to get the walleye to want to move a little to take the bait. They move slower and less often when the water is cold, but they will want to check out a fish in distress. Hook the minnows through the tail so that they can flop their bodies around in the water. This will allow the two minnows to create a vibration in the water that will attract eyes. This is also helpful if one fish dies from the cold water shock. You will still have a life one flopping around. Catching the walleye is everything, so you have to come up with some new methods for tipping a jig. By using two minnows, you will have more of a presentation for the hungry walleye. You can use one just as well if you are low on minnows, but make sure to always hook it through the tail so it appears as a live bait instead of a dead bait. If you try this method, you should catch more walleye even in crowed areas of the water when everyone is trying to catch the fish.
