whats the best tackle to use on the river…..wadding for walleye?
If you are going to be wading for walleyes, you want to use lighter gear more so than the heavier gear you would use if you were trolling. You can use a minnow and a bobber on the river to see when you get a bite. You are not going to feel the bite as well as you would when you are trolling or using heavier gear, so a bobber will work great. For the rod, you can use a Ugly Stick. They have the limberness that you need when wading into the river. The reel can be a Penn ultra-lite as well as a six-pound test line. You will find that wading is a technique all its own for fishing walleye. It can be done if you are in the right location. You have to know where the walleye are hiding and try to cast into the zone. I think that wading for walleye and fishing is harder than it is if you are in a boat drifting, trolling or vertical dropping. You have to have precision when casting into the water. One last thing. If you are wading for walleye, make sure that you are not disturbing the water so much. If you have a fast current, be prepared to stand strong or fall down. Try to cast over the zone and reel the bait into the zone instead of casting in front of the zone. You should have some fine catches if you know the area and where the fish are located.
