What strategy should I use when walleye fishing in Lake Vermillion?

What stragegy should I use when walleye fishing in Lake Vermillion?

The first thing you need to do when fishing walleye on Lake Vermillion is to find the right location. Since the fishing season for walleye runs from May 10th to February 22nd, you have a chance to fish the different water temperatures. The best thing to do is look for the walleye by one of the many islands. It is known by the locals that the walleye are closer to the islands and stay there much of the year because of the baitfish. The bait that anglers us when fishing Lake Vermillion is a jig and a minnow in up to thirty feet of water. However, on windy days the anglers use the Lindy rigs. Piccard Island would be one island to find walleye by, but because Lake Vermillion practices the catch and release, you want to make sure you catch a nice sized walleye for keeping. You are allowed to keep one or two for the table. If you fish by Piccard Island, use a minnow and a jig. Vertical jig and keep the bait about six inches off the bottom. Get to the lake in the early morning hours and fish until the sunny becomes bright then fish again right at dusk. You should catch something for your table every day. Just remember to keep a few and release the ones you will not keep safely so they can swim away with harm. If one is not going to make it for some reason, do not throw it back.

I have been able to consistently catch walleye on the south side of Ludlows island, close to shore on a 1/8 ounce lead jig tipped with a minnow.
