What’s the best way to find out when they start biting off shore. I went near the yacht club with my waders the other night and not one bite. Are there any websites with reports?
It would be easier to answer your question if I knew what type of fish you are hoping to catch and where it is you are fishing. As you know, there are so many variables when it comes to fishing that you really have to fish by trial and error methods based on some experience and common sense until you find out what it is that works for you at any given time during several variables such as the time of year, the time of day, water conditions, and many other different sets of circumstances that effect how fish act and react. One thing you can do, no matter what type of fish you hope to catch is talk to some of the old timers. If you happen upon someone who is catching what it is you hope to catch, quietly and respectfully ask questions. Most avid anglers are more than happy to give you advice. Another step you can take, you have already begun. Research whatever it is you want to know. You can also ask for advice at most bait and tackle shops local to the areas in which you plan on fishing. There are several good sites, including this one, that can offer you advice on how and when to fish. Most of the sites you would check for fishing reports are location specific, based mostly on the state in which you will be fishing. A couple that are good to check no matter where you are fishing are: www.fintalk.com www.reelreports.com www.fishreports.net One way that you can tell where the fish are, is the presence of baitfish or other forage. If you see birds hovering and diving toward the water, chances are they are feeding on schooling fish. The presence of schools of baitfish indicate that feeding game fish will be there as well.
