Where are the best places to catch walleye when I take my trip to Idaho? Any bait/technique suggestions?
To be honest with you, there are three places in Idaho where you can fish and catch the walleye. Goose Creek Reservoir, Oneida Reservoir and Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir are the places you will find walleye. In past years, anglers have caught some nice sized fish. The biggest I believe being seventeen pounds. The normal weight is about ten pounds, but it is not usual to hook a twenty-pound walleye as well. The walleye likes to hide around the bedrocks and other underwater structures. The water temperature is right when it is cooler than eighty degrees. Trolling is one way to catch a walleye with crankbait such as a Rattlin Rap or a Shad. You should troll around the shallow areas of the reservoirs. If you are jigging for walleye, you will want to use a -ounce jig in black, green or blue with a worm or a minnow. When you use the jigging technique, remember to go slow. The walleye in this area are a bit skittish. If you are looking at ice fishing in Idaho, you want to use some equipment to locate the fish and then use a minnow on a jigging lure. The fish will se this and strike. Try fishing by some of the weedy areas or around the edges of the cliffs. Try early morning or just after dusk to catch the walleye in these reservoirs. You will come away with a nice catch for the day. Check the local fishing regulations to see what the limit is for a day before fishing.
