My family will be in a cabin at the brainerd lakes in Minnesota. Is there good Walleye Fishing there? Where?
Brainerd Lakes is a great place to do some walleye fishing. Depending on where your cabin is located, you might be able to fish right out the front door. Winter walleye fishing in closing and spring anglers are gearing up. Walleye fishing is good all year long, but spring and early summer are great seasons for walleye fishing. You will find that most of the anglers up there have a favorite spot for catching walleye. I would suggest asking the local bait shop near where you are staying for the best area since you will be in a small area of a big lake system. Minnesota is well known for walleye fishing. You might find some areas of the lake where there are weed beds or underwater rock formations. May 10th is when the walleye season starts back up, so find an area close by your cabin. Usually at night, you can fish right off shore because the walleye come into the shallow waters to feed. You could use a crankbait with a minnow on for night fishing. The lake area is rather big, but the walleye that come out of the lake are usually caught by some sort of underwater structure. If you know the area where your cabin is located, you can contact the bait shop to find the best area for the day. Remember that fishing hot spots change from day to day up in Minnesota. You could fish a hot spot one day and the next day it will be somewhere else.
