I am looking for a fishing rig I used 30-40 years ago. It consists of a wire leader that you pass into the mouth of a minnow and then when it comes out the rear, you attach a two pronged hook which hugs the sides of the minnow. There is a small spinner at the front. One then trolls with this. Can you tell me the name of this rig and where I might find it.
Here is the description I found for what was called a fish applicator. It is a device that is passed through the upper or lower lip of a minnow. You will place a treble hook preferably on the end of it. It will shut the mouth of the minnow which will keep the water out of the minnow, and thus make it look as if it is live bait. These fishing applicators also have a finger grip. This seems like the closest thing to what you may have been talking about; there are several different patents on the different designs, first one coming up in the 1940′s. Hopefully this is what you are talking about. Now, when you come to purchasing the fishing applicator it seems a bit harder to come up with a decent price, but check out the following locations to help out. Again, I really do hope this is what you are talking about. Try Amazon.com, where they have a fishing applicator for the price of $185. This product is also available on Buy.com and Deep Discount.com. Both of these are in the 200 dollar range, though. However, as another source of trying to find this rig check out some of your local fishing stores. They may be able to find one for a lot less money. You can do a search online too, but that’s how I went about it, and only found these three. Good luck, and I sure hope this is the right rig you were looking for. If not, it’s really hard to find anything else that is even close to this design description, so try the fish applicator. Look online to see if the pictures that come up are like the one you have tried before.
