Lake Erie Hotspots for Walleyes

Where are the best spots for walleye on Lake Erie?

If you are coming from Ohio or Pa. one of the most popular spots is the Toledo shipping channel. It’s a pretty good ways out, but it is worth it. ANother great place a little closer to shore is Fairport Harbor, right around the basin. It has a rocky bottom with lots of rock piles that attract lots of walleyes. Another good place on the Ohio side is around Sandusky. The west end of the basin is a very good spot.

On the Pa. side, one of the better places is the point off of Presque Isle. The water is usually pretty calm there, and you don’t have to move around a lot to catch lots of fish. The Northeast Marina can also be good at times. Other popular places are the central, and western basins, especially for trolling.

If you are coming from Michigan, it’s a whole different ball-game. Michigan walleyes seem to be more plentiful and more cooperative. Just about anywhere in the shallows in May and June provide great fishing. Some of the more popular spots are Sterling State Park, Monroe, Luna Pier, and Bolles Harbor.

Happy fishing.
